Treasure chest overflowing with gold coins and colorful jewels floating on a wooden platform above clouds at sunset

The Treasure Chest by Annette Menier | Poetry

The Treasure Chest

There is a treasure chest
Kept above the clouds
Which refuses the pilfer
daily stress would allow

Within this chest
Clear crystals were formed
Collected from tears
Brought on by cruel scorn

Lodged close to the bottom
Many gold coins abound
Purified in the furnace
Aimed to dissolve
All traces of dross
Found in the soul

Superseding all gems
A pearl of great price
Nestles on top
Bought by the soul
With all that it owned

The treasure is safe
Kept for the day
When hope is made sight
The cup overflows
Surpassed by the presence
To whom we belong
