Title: Before the World Began

Scripture: In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.” — Titus 1:2 (KJV)

The phrases “which God, that cannot lie” and “promised before the world began” stood out to me in Titus 1:1-3.

Paul represents believers—and truly, all of humanity—who hope for eternal life. An unbreakable promise from God Himself, made before the creation of the world.

God has promised us all of eternal life before the world was formed.

This means that God’s promise of our eternal life doesn’t depend on our belief. God’s plan for eternal life exists before our creation, our belief and unbelief, before sin even entered the picture.

Our belief does not give us power— He already is power. To think humans’ beliefs could determine divine reality would mean we have control over something only God can govern. But we don’t. Only He holds sovereignty over eternity.  Our eternal life doesn’t require our faith or belief in God or eternal life, but God’s faith and belief in us and eternal life.

Our belief and faith don’t give us eternal life, because that would mean humans have the power to control concepts only God can truly control. God has shown me time and time again that He’s the ruler of all things on earth. In the end, He will have the last laugh.

Another part of the phrase that stood out to me was “which God, that cannot lie”. His promises aren’t dependent on us, but anchored in His unchanging, limitless nature. It’s an evidential fact that God has never lied or broken a promise; the Bible is full of examples.

He made Eve the mother of all living things.

He freed the Israelites from the hands of Egypt and led them to the promised land.

He established David’s throne forever through Jesus Christ.

Each promise was fulfilled, not due to human faithfulness, but because God was.

So when God promised eternal life, He meant it.

The truth has changed my life. I used to be scared of death—terrified that it might be the end of everything. I was afraid that death was the end of a life I never truly lived. I feared that if there was life after death, all I would find is eternal torment and no peace.  I have fallen into the trap of fear. I have let doubt rule over me for a long time. But not anymore!

Now, I’m no longer afraid. I know God loves me—and you—that He would never dream of abandoning us to despair. God would never dream of forsaking us. He loves us so much that eternal life was promised before the world was created.

When I feel like I don’t have a home here, I know I have one with God—spiritually now, and one day, physically and eternally.

I praise a God who is loving, gracious, and unshakable. Even if I am teased or misunderstood, I endure it—because I will forever serve in the One whose kindness, love, and grace surpasses anything that this world can offer.
