Evangelicals in Widening Gyre

Twisting...tumbling from once known circle
the falcon falls through black expanse;
o how everything has fallen,
and center has dissolved.
Seminal anarchy has conceived in this womb of a world,
from Satan's heart to practiced art.

A postmodern turn has twisted its thorns into our brow.
One and all subjects to its reality,
Pleading fealty to its boundaryless shackles.

O the shadow Christ's bride dwells in,
the shadow of this beast,
the shadow of its ill-defined but all-too-defined form.
Shadow rolls,
strikes fear,
drinks faith like blood,
this undead, untruth vampire.

To the one, blood loss is ecstasy,
a religious trance,
a charismatic dance,
a touch of the spirit to soothe faith's lost stance.

To the next the shadow looks like stone,
like monuments of old,
ossified facsimiles in place of twin tablets,
no less Baals, these fundamentals.
No less golden calves,
this clutch-to sacred and post-mortem truth.

To another... to another is a sweet embrace,
Shadow greeting with cool ease,
its dark, marauding arms enwrapped in the tepid faith of another,
of the sons and daughters on sojourn,
no exodus to a spirit-made city,
but instead to starless night,
to the dark well the Shadow drinks itself from.

One and all see Shadow's frame.
One and all... but who slay?
Who takes sword?
Whose lips kiss the truth?
Of precious speech?
Of absolute foundation,
transcendent, but present?

Who to come and slay this final Shadow?
But one who holds the second coming in his heart.
The one whose breath holds sweet salvation and fiery light.

- A Poem about postmodernism and its effects on evangelicalism, with the three parties listed above being charismatics, fundamentalists, and progressive Christians, respectively. The second coming alludes to Christ's coming as the ameliorator of all this... and is also a reference to Y.B. Yeats famous poem, The Second Coming, which is about postmodernism.
