Two Poems from Onuegbu Chiamaka

Between sin and forgiveness
“Come now, and let us reason together saith the LORD: though your sin be as scarlet, they shall be as
white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18

Guilt is alleged until it prick,
& stings the conscience with scorn.
Yet none is outrightly pronounced drunk,
unless he reeks of spirit & a soured belch.
Beggers won't beg alms from folded arms,
& man doesn't give what relinquishes him.
“ Settlements are for debtors, creditors accept credit.”
For the giver knows of what remnant is left.
Between sin & forgiveness lies endearment:
to be accepted without prejudice or bigot.
Undeserving,
yet chosen.

WHEN AN EDGE BREAKS

“When an edge is broken, the serpent bites.” culled from Ecclesiastes 10:8

Chipped wares bear malign comments for names,
as the eye is light unto the body until it gets cataract.
The mind—a fertile plot cultivated with thoughts, what's not?
Conscience dies when guilt becomes a norm and don't stink!
Morality being morally just, yet tagged ignoble.
When principles gives its say, perspectives now matter.
The world revolves around two distinct persons:
Disagree has a twin, Agree, of the lineage Today.
When an edge breaks, a whole end in shards.
“Their enemies infiltrated the city yesterday,

because they failed to mend the walls until they came to crumble.”
Likened to a city without guards.
When a fragment of ones thought chip,
sordid impulsions arrive promptly uninvited.
The enemy in his treacherous manner seeks who to devour,
mend the broken edges before the serpent bites.
